Grizzly is now selling Shop Equivalents to their G0766

I was on the Grizzly site today and noticed a "new" lathe. It is the Shop Fox W1852. It sure looks the same as the G0766 except 2 things: (1) different color and (2) it costs $245 more. I wonder why they added this?

Grizzly has always had a retail line of machines...”Shop Fox.” That allows retail vendors to carry some of their machines. We have a local hardware company that carries a few Shop Fox machines, along with their Jet, Powermatic, and formerly Delta lines. Grizzly brand is their direct wholesale line, and they are basically the same machines, painted different, and labeled different models.

But it is still puzzling that they would sell the shop Fox on the same website as the G0766. When you go to Grizzly.com and then the wood products and lathe page, you'll see it with a "badge" that says something like "New !!". I can understand selling the Shop Fox through various Retailers but not on their own web site. Also, if I was a retailer selling a Shop Fox, I would not like Griz selling the same thing via the internet. Just saying....

When I have time, I'm going check out the spare parts of some critical parts to see if there are any bargains/anomalies with the Shop Fox parts.

Not a bad idea checking the parts list on both machines. I suppose the reason they are selling both on their website is that they have more in stock than vendors are requesting, so they put them out as a new item. Some folks would not even bother to check out the rest of their lineup perhaps. who knows for sure?! It is new in a sense of being a new offering and different paint color on the leg castings.

Brice, please report back if you find some parts like the potentiometer has an updated version, etc

Roger, you make a good point regarding excess stock. Last year I bought the forward-stop-reverse switch and the emergency stop switch because I thought that there were priced very low. It is better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. Ha ha.

There's also the curious umbrella effect. If you have one with you, there's less likelihood you'll need it.

Shop Fox has a 2 year warranty and Grizzly only has one year. That must be the reason for the inflated price.

I'm looking at a 4 post planer. The Taiwanese company that makes them for Grizzly also makes them for Powermatic and Jet (and I assume Shop Fox). Other than a few different features they look exactly the same. But the Powermatic sells for almost $1500 more. Maybe green paint is cheaper than the white paint used on Shop Fox tools. I'm guessing mustard yellow my be very pricey.
