Well, don't know what to say exactly. I do see she is not a great mechanical mind, but she tried! The Laguna Revo 18/36 had banjo problems, and at least at the end of it all she said, many did not have issues with their 0766. My personal experience has been great with my G0766, and my G0800. I have the original spindle in mine, and have the replacement if ever needed. If one thing was lacking it was quality control at the factory with the G0766 at first. Not sure how they let a few get out the door with issues, but Powermatics and Lagunas have gone out the factory door with problems as well. Thanks for the link, Leonard.

I was hoping for a "good" video showing the right technique. But this video is definitely NOT the way to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if the new bearings were damaged by all of the hammering that applied most of the force to the outer race of the bearing and bearings themselves and not on the inner race.

When I complained of a sloppy spindle on my early model G0766, they actually sent me a new/replacement complete headstock. Surprising that they didn't do this with this gal. Also, I wonder what "failed" on her spindle.

I seriously question her skills to properly diagnose an issue. This lathe seemed purchased in 2019, and she said the spindle had runout. Said it was not the chuck adapter. I have 5 SuperNova2 chucks and the adapters had runout on 2 of them, to the point they had to be replaced. Not every turner is adept at diagnosing a manufacturing issue. Sounds like Grizzly tried their best to work with her....she seemed exhausted by the whole experience, and then when she got the Laguna Revo 18/36, the banjo locking bar rotated 360 degrees, even after they adjusted it a couple of times. Makes me wonder how adept they are on things mechanical.

If the key that locked the pulleys on the spindle did not fit the slot on the pulleys, instead of hammering away until damaging the bearings, a better approach would have been to file a smidgen off the key until it fit properly, and not hammer away doing the damage she did.....again, I question how adept she is regarding diagnosing and repairing things.

I took a look at the Griz instructions for replacing the spindle bearings (the one dated 1/15/2016) and, after watching the video, see that the instructions offer a couple of interesting tips but is a bit lacking. The person doing the video didn't precisely follow the instructions. It was probably the first time that she had ever tried replacing bearings and didn't think about the damage that she was doing by pounding them in the way that she did.

One of the missing items from the instructions is to have you remove the retainer clips (item #20). But perhaps if a person used a big enough sledge hammer the clips might automatically be removed.

Roger, I recall that you replaced your G0766 bearings (?). If so, do you have any advice to make the replacement easier? Did you deferentially heat/cool the bearings and spindle?

Brice - I got replacement bearings in case I ever needed them. My originals are still in, going strong with no issues to date with pretty heavy wood turnings to date. My unit has been superb, and the only repair I have done is replace the potentiometer. My original was still working, but had one little place there was a pause, so I replaced it with a new one, and the new one has an even more solid feel than the one which came on the lathe originally. Those bearings will be there in the future should I ever need them. My former G0698 still has the original bearings and is used heavily at our turning club ......now about 11 years old with ZERO issues!

I did send the instructions to a couple of folks from Grizzly on spindle replacement.....Brice, you may have been one of those who I sent it to....don’t remember for sure. Grizzly will share those instructions to anyone needing to replace their spindle, which is very unlikely now that the unit has been in production for 4 years.

Holy cow! This same lady is now replacing the spindle on her brand new Laguna Revo 18/36, and she says she replaced the spindle on her old Vicmarc [did not mention the model Vic] I am really wondering if she knows anything at all, but she says she's a pro by now because of her replacing 3 spindles to date....then she backs off that some in the video in the first few minutes. Here's a link" https://youtu.be/k8ew8t6Ru0o Good grief!

I saw the same video. Something is wrong when a person thinks that three spindles on three different machines are all bad. On the Grizzly video she made a comment that there was a one one-thousandths runout. That is pretty small and probably insignificant. When a machinist needs that sort of accuracy they don't use a scroll chuck. Instead they use a four-jaw chuck where each jaw is individually adjusted one at a time to achieve a low runout.

BTW, I was amazed when the dial indicator didn't move at all. That was incredible.
