Carter Sphere Jig?

I was contemplating the Carter Sphere jig, but don't find a riser post for the 22 inch swing of my G0766....there's a 20, and a 24/25. Anyone successfully using the Carter on a G0766? If not, other commercial sphere jig?

I don't know much about your issue, except that it is very easy to reduce the length of a post that is too long. I have a metal band saw that would shorten the post length in about 40 seconds, but you could also use a hack saw (slower), a 90 degree hand grinder (cheap), a cutoff saw, a saber saw (cheap but effective) or a reciprocal (Sawzall) saw. So, if you are "long" on the post, you can always reduce the length of the post.

Brice you covered the cutting options well. Another thing to consider is that the hole in the banjo neck may be deep enough that a post for a 24” lathe would fit down into the banjo enough that it brings the cutter to centerline. I would not be surprised if that were the case, as my coring rig is that way on my G0766, and works well on my 24” swing G0800 also.

Thanks guys, I hadn't considered cutting a longer one down.

John, you might not even need to cut it down, so check how it lines up with center line for cutting.
