Equipment snobbery!
Another item of note on recent fixes is the spindle boss on the new spindle version for the 0733 is now 1.25, even though the floor model at Springfield still had the old 1.26. The floor salesman (a life-time turner) wasn't aware of any issues, so I had him try to mount a Nova insert.... seated half way over the boss. Told me to just tighten set screw in channel and that would be good to hold in place. What?? Decided to upgrade my 2015 model 0733 with a new spindle and handwheel and was pleasantly surprised that new spindle boss is properly sized. Not sure when they changed but would think some new units could still be shipped with old spindle.
Still has same issue with the grub (set) screws for securing some faceplates, etc. The Grizzly FP is spot on, while my Easy Wood FP, Nova FP, and Nova inserts do not align. I can drill and tap new holes in the faceplates, but not the inserts (not enough room) which sit half on and half off the end of the boss. Guess I'll take a look at the brass tipped screws for them. Is anyone using them and how do they work? Thanks.
Good info Dave.....an important bit of technical fitting information. Do me a favor and put this info into a new post, as folks searching for this about fitment of chucks to the boss may not even try to look here on this thread. I'd really appreciate if you would do a new post about it...thanks!
I have both two and have no issues with them. I also have two 5 year old Grizzly chucks and they are fine too.
Following this same thought, I went to Grizzly’s website this morning to replace a plastic table insert on my bandsaw. The 3” insert fits around the bandsaw blade and is removed to give more room when changing blades. I made a note to purchase 3 or 4 while at the website, expecting them to cost 1 – 2 dollars each. One insert cost $8.50 with shipping at $6.99, and tax for a total of $16.69 (Grizzly part number P0514X2127) Granted, my thinking is based on pricing from 10 years ago, but I was surprised. There isn’t a bigger Grizzly fan and supporter in this group than myself, but I am concerned because historically when prices go up, they rarely go back down. I can stop purchasing new tools and patch up old tools myself, but what about food and gas prices, how will that be resolved? Pucker-up I am guessing?
Gary PM me I print the inserts on my 3D printer
Note that part of the price increase is the extra tariffs added to them in 2018. I was unlucky enough to buy just a few months after the tariffs. I believe I paid something like $2200 for my G0766 in early 2019. So far, it's been great.
