Grizzly Supply Chain

I got an email last week from Grizzly Industrial, and it mentioned some of the difficulties they were having in securing stock for their customers. I am surely hopeful that in the upcoming months that things will get better regarding the availability of woodworking machines. I really hope they are able to bring back the G0800 lathe, and some of the other machines that have helped to build their reputation in wood turning.

Early on, a number of years ago, Grizzly lathes seemed to be considered 2nd class, but the addition of the G0766, G0733 and G0800 made their stock rise as far as their reputation in turning platforms were concerned. Lets keep an eye out for the return of what was their best lathe offering to date in my opinion...the G0800. Or perhaps an upgraded version of that platform, or perhaps an upgraded version of the G0766.

By upgrades, I mean the addition of a movable control pendant, additional tool rest options, etc.

I am surprised by the significant multiple supply chain issues around the world and am also puzzled. I keep track of Covid developments and when I look at the Johns Hopkins Covid site, I see data that China has not had a single new case since the end of January and their last Covid death was recorded in April of last year. So, for a country that has all of the necessary energy and raw materials to make a lathe, it doesn't quite add up. Or at least to me. I suppose that part of the supply chain might also include our dock workers, and US transportation. I suppose also that it is possible that China has been more severely affected than is being reported. No conspiracy theory or anything, just trying to understand the situation.

Did the Grizzly email mention anything about increased demand?

Some raw materials acquisition is problematic. I go this morning to get a new set of tires put on my wife’s car. The lady who owns the tire service I’ve dealt with personally for 30 years told me they are having a tire shortage, and prices have risen nearly 30%. I’m getting the last 4 in the distributors warehouse in the right size for my wife’s car. Lathe manufactures like Oneway are having problems getting raw materials to make lathe parts...orders are 9 months out.

Roger, be sure to check the DOT date code on the tires to make sure that they haven't been sitting in storage for too long and are all approximately the same age.
