I wonder what happened?

Seems right now Grizzly does not have any lathe made for them by Harvey. The G0800 was discontinued, as well as the G0835 24x24 bowl lathe. I don’t see the Shop Fox version 24x36 unit. So, I am left wondering what’s the deal? The G0800 is a superb, premium class lathe that has high end performance.

If anyone knows why they discontinued, I’d love to know why. My speculations are 1. Difficulty due to tarriffs [they were hostile to Trump Administration] 2. Harvey decided to keep the design exclusively for themselves. 3. Perhaps a newer version with features like tailstock pendant is in the works, and when older models were sold, that was the last of the older production runs.

I just hope they continue support of those units with parts availability! They seem to have picked up the Nova lathe lineup, which I consider a major step lower.

I don't have an answer, but I have some suspicions. Harvey bought Bridge City Tool works (Montclair, Ca.) almost 3 years ago. Harvey was manufacturing some of the items for Bridge city, so it kind of made sense. When I googled Harvey wood lathes, I see that I could order one from Harvey Industries Intl. and that their US address is the same as Bridge City tool. I also read on the Harvey Industries website: "The Harvey brand is known in woodworking markets everywhere except North America where we have, until recently, operated as an OEM supplier to many of the well known US machinery brands." I see that Harvey is now marketing their lathe under their own name with Rockler and Woodcraft Supply. So, perhaps they either didn't want Griz to rebadge their unit or they just wanted to market the machine under their own name.

    Part 2:

I went to the Grizzly site and tried to search for parts for the G0800 but was unable to. Perhaps it is a website issue ??? If you're interested, you might want to call Harvey Industries in Ca. (they're actually only 85 miles from where I live) and see if they can supply spare parts for your lathe.

BTW, is your G0800 the same as the Harvey Turbo T-60S (with Servo motor) ??

My G0800 is the same lathe frame/size as the original Turbo-60, but has a 3hp high efficiency A/C motor and Delta EL Series Inverter on it. When Laguna carried it for a year, theirs also had a 3 hp A/C motor/inverter on it, but then they went to the current version of their 24" Revo model. Just last year Harvey began to put the 2 hp servo motor on the T-60. I suspect they wanted to market that unit with their label only. One will get greater torque at low speeds with the A/C inverter combo vs. the D/C Servo controller combo, not to mention the added horsepower.
