How many lathes do you have?

I just got my email that my G0766 was shipped today. I currently have a Delta Midi lathe that I have owned since 2012. I have the bed extension on it and have kept it in "as new" condition. My plan was to keep it as well as the new lathe but it will be a little tight in the shop.

I was wondering how many of you have more than one lathe? If you have more than one do you ever have projects going on each one at the same time?

    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi Herold,
Before I got my G0766, I had a 1950's craftsman 9" lathe. For a while I used it as a disk sander because I had made a sanding disk. But then I started to clean out some machinery that was taking up valuable space. So, I passed it along to someone with tools and accessories at a "can't turn-it-down price". They were ecstatic and I too was happy.

It seems like you can do essentially everything that a small lathe can do on your bigger lathe. But, that's just my personal opinion.

    Brice,

I really didn't need a new lathe. I just wanted one and wasn't going to sleep until I got one. Seriously I do want to turn some bigger items. Plus not being as good as I wish things get smaller What starts out as 12 inches in diameter ends up half the size by the time I am done so the new lathe gives me more room for error. At least that is what I told the wife.

I am in to ham radio also and have more radios than I can talk on in a lifetime. It's easy to get carried away with any hobby.

I like turning boxes so I may use the small lathe for them and the new lathe for my bowls. Anyway just curious to see what others have while I am waiting on mine.

Harold, I have 3 lathes. A G0766, the black beast G0800, and a delta midi. I have more than one project going at times, and if I need to make a lid, I don't have to take the main part off the lathe before making one. Many reasons to have two lathes if you have enough room.

    Harold,

I too have three lathes -- my G0766 and a Delta midi in my garage/shop at home and a Jet 1236 (gifted from a friend and what got me started in this addiction), in the TX Hill Country where I'm SLOWLY getting it together for a shop there. Like Roger said, sometimes it's easier to just do some other work or an additional step on a second lathe rather than take off one thing and put something else on the same lathe.

I only have one,my recently added G0766. Well actually I have an old Penn State mini lathe, but I have a cloth wheel chucked on it and pretty much only use it for buffing. I probably shouldnt admit to that here.

I have two lathes. My Grizzly G0766 and an old Rockwell Delta 12" lathe that I now use as a disc sander and Beale buffer. The Rockwell Delta lathe is belt driven and has 4 step pulleys. They go from 900 rpm to OMG fast. All the turning gets done on the Grizz with the variable speed control.

I recently bought a drum sander and I could use the Beale buffing mandrel on the Grizzly. If I bought a table mounted 12" disc sander, I could sell the Rockwell Delta lathe and free up enough space for a joiner. Hmmmm.

I have 3l Grizzly G0766, 1955/89 Shopsmith, and I recently got a used Jet JWL-1014 for doing threaded lids and inserts for my cremation urns. SS may have to get sold to free up space, and replace the table saw with a dedicated, and the drill press with a dedicated.
