Mark, I am 5' 9 or 5' 10" and I too found the original (early) model to be a little too tall. I talked Griz into sending me a set of shorter legs. That was when it was still in warranty and I had developed some repartee. The shorter legs helped quite a bit. I suspect that it might be possible to order the shorter legs. I think that they were slightly under 2 " shorter - - like 1-5/8". I suppose another alternative would be to remove the legs and attach the bed to a new (and rigid) structure. Although it would be a PITA, I suppose that if your lathe was on a concrete floor that you could saw cut the concrete and lower the height of the floor. Good luck.
