With my situation, its been well over a year since my G0800 or my G0766 have been powered up. In the time since I’ve taken a hiatus from turning, we’ve had all sorts of weather, from thundertstorms, cold & snow, high summertime temps, and drought conditions over this summer. This past Saturday, I decided slip into the shop, plug the lathes into power, and see if the would operate normally after 18 months. Both fired right up, and did just fine. I ran them to the max, and to the minimum rpm’s, with no issues. I thought that was pretty good being in an unheated, uninsulated shed. I must be livin’ right or sumpn’.
Roger, great! Sounds like unplugging them from line power a year and a half ago paid off! I try to remember to do that as well, if just to avoid the risk of damage from a freak lightening ground strike. We installed a whole-house lightening protection system when we built many years ago, but I fear a nearby ground strike might defeat even that. Now time to make some chips, if you're feeling up to it!
Hey David. Not up to making chips yet. I spent yesterday in bed after nearly passing out. Things got worse from there. I think I got a case of food poisoning. Not thinking about it the day before, I visited a local foodbar restaurant, not thinking about being immuno-supressed due to the meds I’m on. Believe me, my registered nurse wife let me know about it!
I have one of those RN wives, too. PITA. Especially since they're usually right. David
