Trotec JobControl enhancement suggestion thread

I would like to start a JobControl thread to make suggestions for future enhancements of JobControl. Be sure to post the version of JobControl software you are currently using as well as the level of the software (Basic, Advanced, Expert).

    My JobControl Version : 9.4.4.2
    Level : Expert
Suggestion : Allow the ability to right click on a job name in the Job Queue and "rename" the job.

Ron, you might be aware of this, and I'm not sure where you're coming from on your request, so I might be telling you something you already know. I'm guessing (and it's a 50/50 guess) that you draw something, send it over before saving, and you have a load of "untitled" jobs in your queue. If that's the case, there's an easy fix.

When you go to print, click on the "About" tab and then change it to ask you for the job name. If that's turned on, when you print, a box pops up and asks you to type in a job name.

Now, if you just have a need to change the names once they are over there, then that's completely different and my tip doesn't apply. I use the Ask for Job Name myself. Works very well.

Edit- looks like you have to post photos to the group and then link to them. It should look like this :

    Scott,

You're right that my Job Queue is completely comprised of TrotecJob XXXX job names. I queue a lot of jobs that are material tests and prototypes and once I get a good result I have to resend the job to rename it with a more appropriate name. It would be nice to just right click on the job name and rename it directly in the queue, especially when I have a job that produces interesting results but I don't have the time to explore the results further.

If I could directly rename the job in the queue, then I could "flag" the job with a better name and go back to it later.

It seems to me that saving files would be better organized in Corel or in the Trotec materials folder.

Here is the PDF that shows what Job Control X (10) has, so we don't repeat ourselves on items already implemented.

I asked Tech support if there was a away to do a dual pass engrave. They told me it is in X. I had a job with multi species cutting boards, on end grain, engraved with text and engraving it once and then going back over it with it out of focus .020" was ideal but a pain to do it manually. I like hitting the return button better.

    Keep them coming and ...

PS It appears that our signature does not appear here. Any reason why?

How about when you change a material setting on the fly, on a live job, it doesn't change the master material setting. For example, if I get a customer walking in with a material I haven't cut before, and I pick something close, but engrave it and decide it needs to run again, but since it's already engraved once, I don't want to go full power, if I change the setting, it shouldn't overwrite the master.

I know you can change red and black temporary, but we use color mapping a lot (engrave, vector mark, vector cut), so running any color other than red and black modifies the master material settings forever.

Or, a different example, if you have a job that is engrave and cut, and you only want to run one of those steps again, you have to turn off the color you don't want to engrave. Once you do that, it's off for good in the master. So next time I run that material, I have to turn it back on. Settings should be temporary UNLESS you commit them to overwrite the master.

I have asked for an automatic means of vector cutting interior before exterior vectors.
Currently I have to maintain custom text files for ADA signs that are dual colors and I have to run the job twice. The first run cuts any interior vectors assigned one color then I run the second color to cut any exterior vectors. When an exterior line is cut first such as a zero the piece can lose its position which means it will be destroyed when the interior cut is made.

My old Epilog Legend had a one button click in the driver that did this automatically.

Just got my load speedy 300 and having some issues with Job Control X. It doesn't seem to like Illustrator. I know Corel Draw is the standard and it works fine with Corel X6, but I do all my work in Illustrator so it's a pain to save and open everything in Corel, set it all up again and print. When it prints from Illustrator, it either freezes and then removes all my devices (printers and all) until I reboot or goes into Job Control with all my vectors messed up. When the vector is messed up, I tried running the file to see if it was just the preview that was messed up but the laser beeped and all the red lights turned on...... any ideas?

It would be VERY NICE if the "bottom up" engraving option was the default or at least sticky between sessions.

It's not a job control thing but it would also be nice if there was a button on the machine (or combination of buttons) that would reposition the laser to the pointer so I do not have to walk over the the computer to do it. Suggestion - a quick poke of the home button moves it to the pointer (if set) a longer press of the home button sets the pointer to the current laser position (if a pointer is already set it resets the pointer to the new position).

It would be nice to be able to see each job placed on the plate from one job to the next without having to select the seeing eye each time.
Why would you engrave or cut something you don't visually verify first?
Maybe it's because I'm still new but there's been many times I thought the job sent over from Corel was correct, and then when I viewed it on the plate I realized I forgot to select something that should have been included in the job.

Another thing I noticed was in using a rectangle in a blue color for placement only, on a job which had engraving and cutting in one file, the engraving took a LOT longer than the same job without the rectangle even though the color was identified for placement. In my thinking, "For Placement" means visually on the plate - not that it should be included in the area scanned or traversed for engraving.
