I have a G0766. I've recently have noticed quite a few scratches on the bed of my lathe that I think are from moving the banjo. I took off the banjo but did not see anything obvious that is causing the scratches. Any ideas about what may be causing the scratches or what I should do to eliminate or at least minimize them occurring in the future? Or are the scratches even something to be concerned about? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Just make sure to wipe off any grit that has gotten underneath the banjo. I would move the banjo all the way forward, take a clean paper towel and wipe underneath the banjo really good, then move it all the way back, and do the same. Spray just a little WD-40 on another paper towel, rub it on the bottom of the banjo, and you should be good, provided there is no rust on your bed ways. If so, a synthetic pad and some WD-40 to go over your bed will put it like new again. Even better, is a product called “Corrosion X”. Which is the best I’ve ever used. Google it, you’ll thank me later!

I've got scratches on my G0766 bed also. I think that it is probably from sand paper grit. Probably best to wipe down the bed and underside of banjo after sanding on the lathe.

    Had the same problem.
I suggest you look at the machine surface on the banjo bottom.
On mine the surface was not flat, was not smooth and generally looked like it was surfaced on a sidewalk.
The fix was to take a good quality mill file and flaten out the surface and then hit it with some silicon carbide paper to finish refining the surface. You will most likely find the casi iron there is pretty soft and easy to dress.
From there get a good coat of wax on the banjo nd ways , any good quality wax will work. I love Johnsons paste wax but they quit making it damn !!! Minwax is good also or even good quality automotive paste wax will help.
Chech the banjo bottom machine work my guess it is the culprit !!!!!!
