Hello all, I’ve been doing a lot of research on the grizzly lathes and this group has been very informative to read all the posts about these lathes. I’m looking at the g0766 or g0733. I really leaning towards the g0766 but not sure if you guys think it’s worth the higher price that they are selling for now. 2750 for it and 2150 I think for the 0733. I’m moving up from a jet 1442 with the reeves drive and like turning everything from small finials to large bowls and segmented vases. I’ve turned cowboy hats for display but my lathe is not big enough to turn actual hats that can be worn. I’m probably going to bite the bullet and get the larger lathe just wondering if some of the small issues that I’ve read about this lathe have been taken care of or if there will be things I will need to address after I get it. Thank you for this group lots of info here.

Hi Glenn. I’ve never regretted getting the large lathes. I have the G0766 and the G0800, and also a Delta midi lathe. Since you enjoy making a larger bowl once in a while, you will be better off in my opinion with the G0766. You’ll get a more advanced inverter and more horsepower [3, vs. 2 for the G0733]. And the extra swing for larger wood. I used to have the predecessor to the 0733, the G0698 18/47, and the bigger 0766 suits me much better. Good luck with your decision!

Glenn, I have the G0766 and have had no issues. I would tell anyone who wants to turn something bigger than a pen to get one. This lathe was the best bang for the buck when I got mine a few years ago, I did a ton of research.

I want to thank you guys for the reply as that was all I needed to get the bigger lathe. I knew I wanted it but just needed a little push from other turners, thank you.

Somethings that you may never hear on a person's deathbed:

"I wish that I had spent more time at work". AND
"I wish that I had a smaller lathe".

Glenn, I did a lot of research about 2 years ago before I bought my Grizzly G0766. I read everything I could find on the lathe and eventually determined that it was the most lathe for the least money. I finally made the plunge and it's been a great lathe. It's way more capable than I am and it gives me room to grow. I predict that if you make the jump to the G0766, after a week, you'll throw rocks at that Reeves drive lathe.

I think your right Robert, I live about 5 hours from the Bellingham Grizzly and think I will make the drive and have them load in into my truck. Very excited to get to turn on it.
