I have had a 14 inch bandsaw since 2011 that has never cut correctly. It was all over the place and I finally gave up on it. I just ran across this youtube video and tuned my up like they say and it now cuts perfect. The video is 38 minutes long. The first part is a rebuild by a guy from Carter. You can skip all that and start watching at minute 27. Just pay close attention to the blade alignment. That is the key. Instead of centering the entire blade in the center of the wheel you center the deepest gullet in the center. You'll be glad you watched it. BTW, my bandsaw is totally stock. https://youtu.be/XYYG91fr_2w
Thanks for the link Harold. Both my 14” grizzly G0555LX and my Jet 18” bandsaw cut perfectly. I am a stickler for precision setups on my equipment, and so many bandsaw users fail to get their saws properly tuned. Most of the time it is setup and operator error that is the problem, not the saw.
This is his other video that may be interesting to watch also. https://youtu.be/wGbZqWac0jU
I have an older Jet 14" bandsaw with a riser block. It's been a good saw and I keep it tuned up. I've always bought those cheap Olin bandsaw blades and they work ok. Recently, I broke down and bought a 1/2" 3TPI Timberwolf blade for it. Wow! That thing really cuts now. Even with 3 TPI, it does a pretty good job splitting segmented rings and resawing walnut strips.
Robert, if you cut blanks to turn from green wood you will find the “Woodturners Blade” from Highland Woodworking even better than Timberwolf blades. I have used both, and for turning blanks, you will see a major improvement. They are specially designed to give superior performance on logs, etc.
I agree with Roger the woodturners blade is really nice.
Thanks. I'll give them a try next time I go down to Atlanta. Highland Hardware is one of my favorite toy stores.
