    Hello,

I am wanting a couple of custom size tool rest for my G0766.

I called Robust today to order and they are not accepting any custom orders for an indefinite period of time. The guys that make their products are off until the pandemic is over. She said I could try back in late July and see where they stood then. She wouldn't even take my order and hold it. Not sure what that means. I wonder if they are planning on coming back?

What I want is a 9 inch so I thought about ordering a stock tool rest from Grizzly and cutting it off. They are out of stock.

Is there anybody else who makes too rest that will fix this lathe?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Harold

I know you're eager to get turning but I would wait on a Robust tool rest. I have two and I rarely use anything else. I'd like to get a J rest for bowl turning. It seems I was always having to clean up the nicks on cast iron tool rests.

The wait on thr Robust rests will be worth it...remember 8.75” total height [top of rest to bottom of post]. Bestwood tools might have a round bar stock rest with a long enough post to get the required height. Also, Advanced Lathe tools by Steve Sinner might be a good place to look for high quality rests.

Thanks for the comments. I was turning some today and really like the lathe. At one point it would have been nice to have a shorter tool rest. I do use the Robust rests on my other lathe which is why I wanted them. I can wait if I have to. I was just surprised they have no one to make their products. It would seen one or 2 guys in a shop could stay away from each. What unusual times we live in. In Texas all the Woodcraft stores are owned by one famialy. They are only doing curbside service while Rockler has the doors wide open. In Dallas we do have to wear a make or you are not allowed entry anywhere.

    So I guess I'll wait.

Have you considered Sinner at advancedlathetools.com. Many like their rests better than Robust, and they may make the post length you want now. I don'e own any, but they seem pretty nice.

I have the Bestwood tools rests with an 8" post that I use a lot on my G0766. Works fine. Post length is sufficient with the big top round bar.

Most of what I saw on Steve Sinner's site were various size straight rests.......well built indeed. You could ask him if he would make a curved rest if that is what you are looking for.

    Tom,

On the Best Woods he makes a 3/4 or 1 inch top bar. Are you using the 1 inch?

    Roger,

Steve wants an extra $70 added to each tool rest to make it with a longer post. Nice tool rest but that's a bit too much extra.

I did see Nova makes a system like the Best Tools but instead of a round top rod it's like a Rockler style rest. I wonder if anyone has used them?

To me, that is way too expensive. Thanks for that info on the sinner rests......I was not aware. Robust is surely the way to go.
