Tail stock slop?

Hey all...been a long time since I have been on here...life happens.

Anyhow, was curious how much play y'all have in the tailstock mechanism? My G0733 seems to have significant play between the tailstock and the bed ways. I have to twist it right before locking down. Maybe it has been that way since I got it, but I have noticed that repeatability is not easy. Seems to show up when I am drilling on it.

Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust it? I think this play is affecting my turning as it seems impossible to repeatably position the tailstock in the exact position. Thanks in advance.

My G0766 does not have that issue, nor did my former G0698 18/47. If it is too much, then shims could be added to fill the gap, or perhaps contact Grizzly and see what they advise you to do. How long have you had your G0733?

I would also measure the gap in the bed ways......if you constantly use the same clamping position on your lathe, it might have some excessive wear in that spot. If it has worn considerably, then change the headstock position, and that will also move the tailstock. Are you drilling lots of peppermill blanks?
