Making a Settee

I've been making Windsor chairs for a number of years. In 2011 made my first settee. I doubled the size of the continuous arm chair seat I make and added 20" to the arm. The arm did not fit in my steamer, so I did a 2 step bending process. I wrapped the green oak that did not fit in the steam box in wet rags, steamed for 20 minutes and did my bend keeping the rag wet overnight. The next day I steam bent the second half. Worked well for me. When legging up, I made a minor mistake. Unlike the outer legs, which are set at compound angles, the middle legs have no splay and as a result are actually shorter. I now turn the middle legs so that the distance from the bottom of the tapered mortise to my stretcher mortise mark is 1/2" shorter. I've also introduced a slight concave curve in the bottom of leg taper so that when trimmed, the diameter of all the legs are same at the floor. Hope you find this of interest.https://windsorheritage.com

I just checked out your website and definitely like it. I have been interested in Windsors for a while (English and American) but have only built one in class so far. My workshop will be finished in late spring so I'm hoping to get started on an American-style Windsor this summer. We moved about 6 months ago so I'm currently looking for a source for my logs.
