    Time for some levity

    Thread Starter: Dave Anderson NH

With all of the negativity and political stuff going on with the Covid-19 virus it is time to look at the humorous side of things. Feel free to add more, but keep it clean or it will be deleted.

    Pocket Knife recommendations?

    Thread Starter: Bob Riefer

Hi all, I hope to lurk more in this section of the forum as I learn more about hand tools (just starting that journey). In the meantime, I do have a question I thought you might have a take on... My 75 year old father is impossible to buy gifts for, the proverbial "guy that has it all", so...

Spontaneous Combustion - A must see video

    Thread Starter: Jim Becker

Jason of Bourbon Moth Woodworking on the 'Tube does a lot of interesting projects and injects a lot of humor...I really enjoy his channel. This new video from him is a lot more serious and I agree with him that it's a "must see" because it illustrates very clearly why the woodworking community (and...

    MM20/SP500 bandsaw, motor dead?

    Thread Starter: Brian Holcombe

I went to start the MM20 today and it was non-functional. Single phase 240v setup. I started investigating the point of failure and have discovered that: -The switch appears to be functional. Each motor lead shows 120v but the motor does not hum when the switch is pressed. -The...

Social Security Question for anyone who knows

    Thread Starter: David Cramer

I'm not there yet, but my question is the following: When you've been married for over 10 years you are able to get half of what your spouse gets. Example is if my spouse gets $3000 at 67, I'd get $1500 even if I'd be getting less without her. So if you start taking social security at age 62...

What 10’ sliding saws should I consider?

    Thread Starter: Malcolm Schweizer

I’m about to pull the trigger on a slider. I must have at least 8’ travel, but really want 10’. We have contact with a salesperson at Felder. I am seeing Makisawa has something at a lower price, but I know nothing about them. I know Laguna also makes a slider. The object of this post is mainly...

From the first time I saw pictures of Stuart Mortimers signature twist work, I knew I wanted to try one myself, but I feared it was too difficult and time consuming. Stuarts book, Techniques of Spiral Work- A Practical Guide to the Craft of Making Twists by Hand, and an article in the May 2006 issue of Woodturning were the sources of inspiration and also great learning tools. It was when Mark Hubl showed his first spiral piece that I finally decided I would give it a try. There are many ways this work can be done, but here is the way I make twisted finials. As with any woodturning project, if something doesn't feel right to you, don't do it!!

Do you have woodworking knowledge you're just dying to share?
Want to be an author at Sawmill Creek?

Now you have a new area to publish articles!

If you want to publish an article, you can join our authors group, which gives you access to a forum which is open only to would-be authors at SawmillCreek. This is a staging area for new articles, where you can post a new article, and we'll review for publication. Once you're ready to publish it, we'll promote it on the front page of SawmillCreek!

    The process is simple:

    1. Join the Authors group by visiting this page.
    2. Once you have access, visit the Authors forum.
    3. Start your article by creating a new thread in that forum.

    TIPS

If your article is too long for a single post, don't fret ! Spread your article over multiple posts, and we'll merge them together into a single post when the article is ready to be published.

Try posting pictures inline for visual interest.

Choose a catchy, yet descriptive title!

    Writer's Block?

We're looking for tool reviews, woodworking tips, woodturning techniques, jigs and fixtures, finished projects step-by-step, finishing techniques, social woodworking experiences, and even good compilations of our existing thread topics.

    Good luck and Happy writing!
