    Best Hitchcock movie introduction

    Thread Starter: Bill Dufour

We have a friend about 45 years old. She has never seen a Alfred Hitchcock movie in her life. She likes modern shoot um ups and super hero movies. It has to be in color. What would be the best movie to introduce Hitchcock to her. The Birds, Psycho, or what. Bill D

    Nova Viking Floor Model Version

    Thread Starter: Doug Walls

I'm looking at getting a Nova Viking for my garage mainly for woodworking use. I'm probably going to go with the floor model version because of the extra height adjustability, but the base seems kind of narrow for a floor model drill press! Has anyone had any problems with the Viking floor...

On the Feedback of Sharpening Stones

    Thread Starter: Jimmy Harris

So I know a lot of people love their sharpening jigs and claim it's the only way to get consistent and repeatable angles on their blades. Which, being someone who's freehand sharpened their whole life, always struck me as kind of odd. I get it if you don't do much sharpening or are new the realm...

From the first time I saw pictures of Stuart Mortimers signature twist work, I knew I wanted to try one myself, but I feared it was too difficult and time consuming. Stuarts book, Techniques of Spiral Work- A Practical Guide to the Craft of Making Twists by Hand, and an article in the May 2006 issue of Woodturning were the sources of inspiration and also great learning tools. It was when Mark Hubl showed his first spiral piece that I finally decided I would give it a try. There are many ways this work can be done, but here is the way I make twisted finials. As with any woodturning project, if something doesn't feel right to you, don't do it!!

Do you have woodworking knowledge you're just dying to share?
Want to be an author at Sawmill Creek?

Now you have a new area to publish articles!

If you want to publish an article, you can join our authors group, which gives you access to a forum which is open only to would-be authors at SawmillCreek. This is a staging area for new articles, where you can post a new article, and we'll review for publication. Once you're ready to publish it, we'll promote it on the front page of SawmillCreek!

    The process is simple:

    1. Join the Authors group by visiting this page.
    2. Once you have access, visit the Authors forum.
    3. Start your article by creating a new thread in that forum.

    TIPS

If your article is too long for a single post, don't fret ! Spread your article over multiple posts, and we'll merge them together into a single post when the article is ready to be published.

Try posting pictures inline for visual interest.

Choose a catchy, yet descriptive title!

    Writer's Block?

We're looking for tool reviews, woodworking tips, woodturning techniques, jigs and fixtures, finished projects step-by-step, finishing techniques, social woodworking experiences, and even good compilations of our existing thread topics.

    Good luck and Happy writing!

Water heater flex, can I use it outside for a sprinkler valve

This repair will be in the air not underground. So I think it should last for decades. Probably put a foam sleeve over it for frost protection.

Bolts for T-Slot on cast iron tops - what size?

Most of the stock t-slot nuts are case hardened, so they are best modified by grinding them down. I had to do that to some t-nuts for a Powermatic drill

I have made one or two from carriage bolts by grinding off some of the head here and there.
