Does anybody have a Apple watch? I have a IPhone and IPad love both but wondering if even a used Apple Watch is of value in scheduling appointment reminders and checking email and just leaving phone in pocket.

Am I the jerk here? Sorry for the length… I’d like to share my peculiar experience with a well-respected tookmaker/distributor within the community. First and foremost, I have nothing but respect for Rob Cosman. I’ve purchased numerous products from him, and they’ve all been great, but I’m at...

Thinking about a new car, so I asked the dealer about any fees. His response was: our “ only” ( quotes are mine) fees are $1695 pre reconditioning fee and $799 documentation fee, the “ only”other fees are sales tax and DMV fee” He didn’t choose to tell me the last two fees and I can guess...

    Quick adjusting vise worn out?

    Thread Starter: Anthony Whitesell

Do quick adjusting vises wear out? I am unable to get any clamping pressure between the jaws of the vise. This is what the screw on my (old) vise looks like. Are they supposed to look like that? If so, how to fix?

Replacing a front entry door - build vs buy, what hardware, what wood species, etc

    Thread Starter: Dan Friedrichs

My house has a pretty standard 68"Wx80"H entry door unit - 36" foam-core door and 2 sidelights. I'd like to replace this with something nicer. I have a set of Marvin patio doors, and another (unknown brand) patio door with 3-point locking - both have a heft and premium feel that is clearly...

From the first time I saw pictures of Stuart Mortimers signature twist work, I knew I wanted to try one myself, but I feared it was too difficult and time consuming. Stuarts book, Techniques of Spiral Work- A Practical Guide to the Craft of Making Twists by Hand, and an article in the May 2006 issue of Woodturning were the sources of inspiration and also great learning tools. It was when Mark Hubl showed his first spiral piece that I finally decided I would give it a try. There are many ways this work can be done, but here is the way I make twisted finials. As with any woodturning project, if something doesn't feel right to you, don't do it!!

Do you have woodworking knowledge you're just dying to share?
Want to be an author at Sawmill Creek?

Now you have a new area to publish articles!

If you want to publish an article, you can join our authors group, which gives you access to a forum which is open only to would-be authors at SawmillCreek. This is a staging area for new articles, where you can post a new article, and we'll review for publication. Once you're ready to publish it, we'll promote it on the front page of SawmillCreek!

    The process is simple:

    1. Join the Authors group by visiting this page.
    2. Once you have access, visit the Authors forum.
    3. Start your article by creating a new thread in that forum.

    TIPS

If your article is too long for a single post, don't fret ! Spread your article over multiple posts, and we'll merge them together into a single post when the article is ready to be published.

Try posting pictures inline for visual interest.

Choose a catchy, yet descriptive title!

    Writer's Block?

We're looking for tool reviews, woodworking tips, woodturning techniques, jigs and fixtures, finished projects step-by-step, finishing techniques, social woodworking experiences, and even good compilations of our existing thread topics.

    Good luck and Happy writing!
