    Time for some levity

    Thread Starter: Dave Anderson NH

With all of the negativity and political stuff going on with the Covid-19 virus it is time to look at the humorous side of things. Feel free to add more, but keep it clean or it will be deleted.

Look at these YouTube instructors. How many of these planes and chisels get used?

    Thread Starter: Joel Gelman

I have been doing woodworking many years, and consider myself very average as I have great machines and can make some nice things, but I have not really invested time into buying and using hand tools. When I get better at that, then I will consider myself an above average woodworker. I have had a...

Friday afternoon I had cataract surgery on my left eye. This morning the world was bright, crisp and in 3D, something it hasn’t been in awhile. Modern technology really is indistinguishable from magic. Regards, Rod

    Subpanel breaker type

    Thread Starter: Mitch schiffer

I'm trying to put in a 200 amp subpanel in my shop. I have a commercial eaton 400amp panel. It takes type BA and BAB breakers. I can't find either of these on more then 100 amps. I did buy a 100 amp breaker to work for now however I already ran 2/0 copper to the subpanel so I would need to cut down...

    Makita 2040 planer restoration

    Thread Starter: Cameron Wood

This showed up on Craigslist, & sucker that I am for projects, have acquired it. Pretty rough shape, but the rollers appear to have been redone so that's a big plus. The handwheel is missing, & looks like it was rigged to use an impact gun or something to raise the table, so the gears are...

From the first time I saw pictures of Stuart Mortimers signature twist work, I knew I wanted to try one myself, but I feared it was too difficult and time consuming. Stuarts book, Techniques of Spiral Work- A Practical Guide to the Craft of Making Twists by Hand, and an article in the May 2006 issue of Woodturning were the sources of inspiration and also great learning tools. It was when Mark Hubl showed his first spiral piece that I finally decided I would give it a try. There are many ways this work can be done, but here is the way I make twisted finials. As with any woodturning project, if something doesn't feel right to you, don't do it!!

Do you have woodworking knowledge you're just dying to share?
Want to be an author at Sawmill Creek?

Now you have a new area to publish articles!

If you want to publish an article, you can join our authors group, which gives you access to a forum which is open only to would-be authors at SawmillCreek. This is a staging area for new articles, where you can post a new article, and we'll review for publication. Once you're ready to publish it, we'll promote it on the front page of SawmillCreek!

    The process is simple:

    1. Join the Authors group by visiting this page.
    2. Once you have access, visit the Authors forum.
    3. Start your article by creating a new thread in that forum.

    TIPS

If your article is too long for a single post, don't fret ! Spread your article over multiple posts, and we'll merge them together into a single post when the article is ready to be published.

Try posting pictures inline for visual interest.

Choose a catchy, yet descriptive title!

    Writer's Block?

We're looking for tool reviews, woodworking tips, woodturning techniques, jigs and fixtures, finished projects step-by-step, finishing techniques, social woodworking experiences, and even good compilations of our existing thread topics.

    Good luck and Happy writing!
