    Time for some levity

    Thread Starter: Dave Anderson NH

With all of the negativity and political stuff going on with the Covid-19 virus it is time to look at the humorous side of things. Feel free to add more, but keep it clean or it will be deleted.

Shop Build...should be a fun journey...

    Thread Starter: Jim Becker

I debated about starting this thread now or later, but decided on now because, well...I might forget something. :o As a little background, at our previous property, I was blessed with a reasonably sized, fully conditioned space for my shop in what was originally a three-and-a-half vehicle garage...

    I hate rusty saws, but...

    Thread Starter: Richard Hutchings

I just saw an ad for 7 rusty saws for $25 and I may not be able to resist. One has the thumbhole but broken horn. It might be worth buying the whole lot but I'll have to get better at cleaning them up. I hate the mess. Hopefully someone will buy them before I decide to bite the bullet.

    Restoring a de Havilland Mosquito

    Thread Starter: Kris Cook

There is a pretty neat article in the Jan/Feb issue of Popular Mechanics about restoring a Mosquito. For those unfamiliar with this airplane it was constructed almost entirely from wood. Fuselage was a 5/8" thick sandwich of plywood and balsa!! That, combined with two RR Merlins made it a...

Solid Walnut bookshelf dados - is glue enough?

    Thread Starter: Bill Brammer

Building 6 ft high, 28 in wide, 12 inch deep solid 3/4 inch walnut bookshelf , no adjustable shelves. I have dados for all shelves. The sides are a little bowed, requiring some pressure with clamps to pull them together with the dados. Not a ton, but some. I'm trying to decide if I need to add...

Cost effectiveness of a slider vs. tracksaw & tablesaw

    Thread Starter: Jonathan Jung

I thought about posting this to the business section, because I'd really like input from professionals who use their shop as a business. For those of you who make $ or even a living making furniture or cabinets, how long does it take for a sliding table saw to pay for itself compared to a track saw...

    Lighting the Small Workshop
    By Jack Lindsey

"Ten years have passed since I wrote the Fine Woodworking article on lighting the small shop," Jack Lindsey explains, but much has changed. Jack comprehensively explores lighting a hobbyist or small industrial shop, drawing on over 25 years of professional lighting experience, covering topics such as fixture and ballast selection, lamp life, and color when employing fluorescent lamps.

Uneven Jaws - Spofford Fray Brace

Well it'll be a user, but no harm!

On another related note, the two halves of the handle are very loose under the pewter rings. Any advice

Uneven Jaws - Spofford Fray Brace

Paul, weird as this may sound, if it is a genuine factory misstep, you have a collectors item there.

    Cheers,
    Geoff.

Uneven Jaws - Spofford Fray Brace

You're right Geoff. The thumbscrew looks perfectly aligned, as is, and besides this jaws flaw, it looks good so I think I'll just crack on using it.

Does A Blowers CFM Rating Change When Converting to A Cyclone Setup?

A cyclone works because it is inefficient and slows the air flow down. I note the blower the OP has is 3 phase which is a plus, use a VFD to control it
