Freud recommends only kerosene for the Dial-a-width Dado. I use CMT's Formula 2050 for my cutting tools. I'm wondering if it's okay to just use the CMT?

Figures, this past fall I just switched from kerosene heat to gas in my garage!

Ah, timing is everything . For the cost of a gallon of Kero vs. the dado set, I 'd follow the manufacturer's recommendations. You can email their support staff. They have always been very resoponsive. You could also PM Charles McCracken who is a member here and works for Freud.

Kerosene smells awful. A cleaning product like Formula 409 is recommended by many in the woodworking field. Spray it on and brush with a soft brush. Wipe it up with paper towel. Clean and practically oderless. Clifford.

This is a follow up to my question to Charles McCracken from Freud America, Inc.

"Kerosene is recommended because it is the safest for the carbide. If you use a cleaner that is much higher or lower in pH you can damage the cobalt binder which results in reduced cutter life."

Charles pointed out, some cleaners are fairly corrosive due to the high pH.

Thanks Charles!
