When you are turning finials what tool or tools do you use? Home made, minis or ?.

Most of my finials are turned with a 3/8" round skew and a 3/8" spindle gouge with a relief ground on the bottom side. Check out Cindy Drozda's Elegant Finials. She takes thru every step and shows every step.

Much like Bernie I do all my finials with an old tool steel 1/2" skew and a 3/8 detail gouge.You can shave hair with them both...Bill...

I started doing them with a 3/8 gouge at first but Im trying to learn the skew so thats what Ive been using lately. Its not going too good either I must admit!! I did alot better with the gouge but I like the finish the skew leaves so its in my interest to learn how to use the $^@Q(#) thing!!
