One of the best looking pieces of wood that I have turned. Measures 14 x 10 x 1. Finished with sealcoat, buffed with mink oil.

Mike - I think Cody said it best - it's like opening a Christmas present! Beautiful platter! Really like the way you detailed the outside rim of the top bowl section. Draws your attention to the area and the fact that there is a slight bowl there. Amazing wood grain pattern and color! Absolutely stunning! Thanks for posting this beauty!

Merry Christmas!

Very nice piece, Mike!! I love the color. About the finish, tell us more about the mink oil, please. Sounds interesting to say the least. How is it for luster, and let us know how it lasts for shine vs. paste wax or renaissance.

What a beautiful piece! How did you get the edges to be so clean and still preserve the fine burl detail?

Thanks guys, I'll try to answer your questions the best I can.

Sealcoat is a dewaxed shellac sealer that dries pretty fast. Once you learn how to use it and not get overlaps it works real nice. Bullseye makes it and I buy it locally from the hardware store.

I ordered the burl from a place I stumbled onto browsing online, don't remember the name.

As for the mink oil. I have only used it twice so I can't tell you anything about the long term. Mink oil is in a can like shoe polish, sold in the shoe section of walmart. It is used for waterproofing leather boots. After knocking down the sealcoat I applied it just like you would a paste wax, and buff it off immediately. To me it really brings out a nice shine. It was only five bucks , so I figured I would give it a try. ''Water proof'' , how bad could it be? I guess time will tell how good it really is, as for now I plan to continue to use it.
