View Full Version : Sharp Lie-Nielsen chisels

Has anyone else softened the edges and the front of their Lie-Nielsen socket chisels. Mine are so sharp, I frequently get cuts without any contact with the working end. My rabbeting block plane from them is similar. If you were to dull the edges, what would you use?

Thanks,

Gary (band-aids at the day job and all)

Same thing you sharpen them with!

Yes,
also my blue spruce.
Took a diamond hone and broke the edges down to within an inch of the tip, figure if I live long enough to wear away an inch, I can take the time to resharpen the edge.

I chose to keep the arrises sharp. Instead, I wear a glove on my guiding hand and the pushing hand stays bare.

I just rubbed some very fine sandpaper on the arrises. It doesn't take much to ease the edge enough that it doesn't cut you.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try some sandpaper, 320? or even finer? I even learned a new vocabulary word.
