Question on rubbing compounds

I've read a number of times of people using a rubbing/polish compound to finish/polish a finish. Do you use the same rubbing compounds that you'd use for a car? i.e. Turtle Wax or similar stuff? Or is there a specific product for wood finishes?

I have used automotive compounds for buffing out a finish. Always apply the compound to your buffing bonnet or pad, not to the finish. Some compounds can cause the finish to wrinkle if allowed to sit on the finish too long.
I have not tried Menzerna products yet, but the are supposed to work really well and be safe for WB finishes

I use Johnson's Paste wax and a white scotch 3M pad on my random orbital sander. Looks like you hand rubbed for days and it takes just a few minutes. Once your finish is cured you can rub JP wax right on the surface, I've never had a problem with either polyurethane or lacquer finishes.

I use Nu Finish, Scratch Doctor, Clear Coat Scratch Remover. It not only leaves my water borne finish smooth as glass, its improves the sheen.
