I received a renewal in the mail for WOOD for $83 for the next 3 years so I bit.

I was about to mail them a check when I saw a toll-free number to call. I always like loading up my Discover Card when I can so I gave it a shot.

Called them up and ask to pay with Discover. Nope, they don't take it. How about Visa they suggested? I hate putting stuff on Visa (personal reasons) so I hemmed and hawed and said, "Nevermind, I'll just mail you a check."

The lady on the phone said rather quickly, "I'll knock another $5 off if you pay right now with the Visa." I bit. :D

Now I wonder if I hemmed and hawed a bit more if I could muster another $5 off! I'll try that next time.

Wow! Boy, they sure didn't do me any favors! LOL...oh well. I kinda thought it seemed high but I didn't let that tickle in the back of my throat bother me. Sigh....

Rich, are you sure this is a legitimate site? I once found a site that offerd great prices only to find out they weren't quite honest.

Ha! Guess what!?

For starters, thank goodness my phone (Cisco IP phone) has a memory for all number dialed and received! I called back the place and they went ahead and matched what you posted for me, Rich!

They gave me 3 years for $42. :D I have a refund of $36 coming!

For being humbled, I thank you!

I don't mean to be the barer of bad news but I get my "WOOD" subscription for under $10 a year and have been getting it for the last two years. They also email me to let me know in advance that my subscription is about to run out. Because we're not allowed to post links to other web sites, PM me and I'll send you a link.

I had done the same recently, when I purchased the router cabinet system from woodpeckers. They came out with a 10% off Fathers day special. I called and they applied a credit to my card without a fuss. You gotta love it !! I'm glad you used that great technology from Cisco to you advantage.

I don't think it matters. Amazon had a good deal and Chris got a price match. There are tons of sites out there.

There are shady sites out there who will sell subscriptions for 2 years and only submit for 1 year. You have to look at the mailing label on your first issue. If it isn't correct you notify the Credit Card Company. You can also notify the publisher and they are usually most gracious.

Mark,

So many mags...so little space to store them all! I have WOOD and American Woodworker and I just signed up for Fine Woodworking (better not post my price! :( ) as I am seeing how fine that mag really is to have.

Doug,

Spread the wealth...how're you getting WOOD for under $10/year? $14/year ain't bad but I like to find good deals, too! :)

Chris, Chris, Chris .... NEVER renew on the first contact, every notice (especially WOOD) is less than the previous. Wait until your subscription runs out and they 'want you back' .......... those are the best deals!

Tony, is that kinda like: Never ever buy the first year of a new model of a car!

LOL...I wouldn't make a good jedi I guess...not much patience! :) Thanks for the advice. I didn't even pay attention to when my subscription is up...no clue.

Tony, is that kinda like: Never ever buy the first year of a new model of a car!

No, more like never buy a brand new car!

There are too many slightly used (especially here in Florida) cars (trucks), 1 - 2 years old with 5K to 20K miles on them for many thousands below the original sticker.

So, I'm not keeping up with the Jones's, but I have more tools than he does! :p :D
