What's on tap for the weekend? I won't be doing any woodworking this weekend, unless it be whittlin', as SWMBO and I are going camping for the weekend with friends. Temps are expected to be in the high 70's so should be a good weekend to be out.

Have a great weekend all,
Bob

I hear the weather's supposed to be nice for the first time in months, so. . . .
I have to help with the Men's pancake breakfast at Church early AM tomorrow & I have to go to my sister's for an engagement party for my other sister tomorrow night.

In between I'd like to actually get out to the shop for a little bit. I have to finish cutting new melamine doors & repair pieces for one of my rental property kitchens. Maybe I'll get to make a cherry & maple cutting board & do some work on a small box I've been trying to finish.

Sunday, after Church, I might try to go to Valley Forge Park - You Know George Washington slept here. There is a Rally for America celebration there. One of my best friends owns a special shape hot air balloon in the shape of an American Flag & they will be at the celebration.

This thing is awsome ( the balloon) if you want to check it out
http://www.usflagballoon.com/ no affiliation other than a good friend & proud American.

Have fun making sawdust
God Bless America!

I know you all are tired of hearing about it but I'm still working on my bench. I'll recap the whole story when I get it done....

I'm supposed to get a load of Ash dropped off by some co-workers Saturday morning (in exchange for a bowl), so I'll be working in the shop. I have some cherry blanks to rough turn and get into LDD for a little while and , now, my pen parts to turn some more pens. These things are addictive! Sunday, SWMBO and I are going to the country to stake out a location for our new house (and my shop) on some 25 acres she inherited from her grandmother last year. I've got it lined up for the surveyor and the "perk test" to be done. Wish me luck. If it doesn't "perk", we'll have to move it. Happy Woodworking and be sure and post picts!

Well....I have 5 of those *#$#*#*$ stools to get finished and I am not so sure I will be making any more...but...if I do? The price won't be cheap!!!!!!!

I hope to open the shop doors while I am working. I finally figured out a way to turn my own 1.5" dowels on my lathe with accuracy of .02"......I built a jig and used my router. Works good and a LOT better than what I can do free hand.!!!!

All that said....I'm sure LOML has something else planned for me to do...so I guess I will find out.

At work.....if things don't get better.....I may be looking for a job. It's not as easy to find Unix Geek jobs anymore as it was several years ago. I guess I will find out on 1 Apr.

Have a great weekend.

Below I'm hoping you see the sled feet and the legs (four mortises to go!) and on the right are the rail blanks. Still gotta cut and fit tenons on those.....
The legs and tennons were cut from one 2 1/2 inch thick 16 foot long slab of spalted ash. The rails were cut from one 12 ft long 2 1/4 inch thick long leaf pine plank that is at least sixty years old.

Rip out another bedroom's carpet,
tear down another 400 - 500 sq ft of Poplar,
sand the oak floors,
finish that porch swing and rocking chair set,
make the two toy boxes,
hang the drywall in my "Shack" corner room in my shop
lay carpet in same "Shack"
change oil in my pickup
.....

Well, that oughta take care of the weekend.....

Black Locust anyone? I just got whooped by a chain saw. My yardman & I just extracted a Black Locust tree from jungle vines in my fence row. It has a diameter @ 12" and some interesting grain patterns around old branch locations. Peacock are you interested?
I am working on my storage cabinet again on Saturday.. Please be kind when I unviel it. It is my first piece of furniture, ever and I have already been beat up on the forum this week.

Photo Added Noon Saturday
This photo shows the carcass assembled with face frames. It needs sanding, staining, doors and a top.

No shop time for me this weekend - taking a couple days off for Spring Break. However, progress continues on two coffee tables, a-la tool chest style, one walnut, the other birdseye pine. Wife just said she wants the walnut distressed. Ugg. Why do I even surface the wood? I should just edge joint the stupid stuff and leave it rough. IS THAT DISTRESSED ENOUGH FOR YOU - HUH? IS IT????

I'll be OK... Going to "blind night" at the Houston Rodeo this evening - Ronnie Milsap and Ray Charles - might have a few cool ones.

Todd.

I finally expect to get the new machines out of the garage and into the basement/workshop. I snowblowed/shovelled last night after work, so yesterday's snow should be melted off of the walks and lawn around the back of the house by mid day tomorrow. Put down some plywood, grab the neighbor guys and go to town!

I want the Locust. Once I get it dry...I will turn you a goblet out of it. I would love to try my hands on some of it and if it turns well, then you will have a piece to remeber the tree by.

Prototype prayer table. Going to try it out as pine before I go 'pensive.

Or...maybe me and the LOML will take the Labs for a walk on the beach. I understand it's going to break 40 F this weekend!

Remember what Dr. Jones (the younger one) said, (paraphrased)

"now, THIS is the cup of a carpenter"

Why go "'pensive", when simple penitent will do?

weekend....

Motorcycling, probably.

Put the finish on some cabinet doors. Almost certainly.

Goof off, yup.

Who knows, my original weekend plans have all crashed, so I'm just going to make it up as I go along.

This weekend they're calling for temps in the 60's to 70's so I think I will finally have to get outside and clean up the yard waste from the winter. Still have the X-Mas lights to get down and put away.....ughhhh...

May get into the shop on Sunday after church....Got an itch to turn another piece of that Zircote.

I got request for a bird feeder I would like to get started on. I am also going to order new counter tops tomorrow thanks to uncle sam. The weather is going to be almost tropical in the UP this weekend, so maybe I can get them Christmas Lights down...

Sooo, meaning turn a bunch and then spend time playing with photoshop??? ;)

For me I will also be doing the same as last weekend...

Saturday: bathroom walls and shower surround.

Sunday: Flea market (if the rain stops) and then continuing the Tennis Club utility cabinet...

Oh, and waiting with baited breath to meet my new son... (LOML's due date was last monday, and she's not too happy:( )

In order to reorganize the shop, I have to finally get back to working on the outside. I have 20 1x4 battens to install at the panel joints on the outside walls.

Then, I will be able to start de-installing my lumber storage rack so it can be moved to the storage part of my shop.

After that, two windows will be framed in and installed. Then the remainder of the insulation can be installed.

I also hope to turn a couple of bowls and cut some blanks.

Needless to say, I hope to get a lot accomplished this weekend.

:D :D

Well, I'm still hobbling, so things get done slowly. Still trying to get some stuff spruced up a bit to try and sell the place. Primed outside shop door yesterday and will try to put finish coat(s) on. Then pretty up (router) some Pine boards which I'll be using to trim out a couple basement windows. With any luck, might even try my hand with some of that Corian scrap I just got and see if I can't turn a decent looking pen or two. You all have a safe and fun weekend!

Gotta clean and organize my work truck. Been too cold to do that all winter. If I get that done, then maybe I'll get to make some sawdust in the shop. Of course, it needs to be cleaned and organized, too....

I've got this dang hand painted business sign to work on. It is in the way in my shop and is keeping me from doing anything else fun. The owner is a demanding pain in the butt and wants the sign finished soon. Of course, I'm the owner and the pain in the butt. I am so hard to please.

I am just finishing one side, but have developed enough technique now that the other side should move along more quickly.
