I am building a router table and need to install miter track for my fence to slide in ( the fence has slides that use miter size track).

My question is how long should I have the miter tracks relative to the table depth? Table is 24"x24". I was thinking that ~11 3/4" would be enough.

Maybe the photos are not clear, but most router fences have a gap in the middle so that the router bit can be recessed into the fence with just an edge sticking out. Your slides would need to allow the fenc to completely cover the cutting side of the largest bit your table can handle.

Here's what I did with mine.

Lee, There is a split in the fence center.

Axl, Nice table. Do the two slotes run from to back, and your fence slide in them?

I have my fence so that it will move to a point 2" forward of the bit's center and about 10" behind it. This will allow stepping through cuts with the largest bit my table opening will let me spin in the forward position. The back position is limited by me running out of table ;-)

Thank you.
Yes, the T-tracks run all the way to the back. Otherwise, it wouldn't be possible to remove the hold down bolts.
I have mounting holes in my fences 18" apart. That way, I can mount either fence where, or in almost any direction I need them. The tracks also hold things like feather boards, stop blocks, etc.
The very front track next to the T-track is for a miter gauge or sled.

If I were to do it over again, I would only go as close as I had to to get the fence to the center or maybe an inch past which should leave the slots shy of center by an inch or 2. If you use a sacrificial face on the fence this should give you plenty or depth.
I made a mistake going all the way from front to back. About half the time I use the table the leading edge of the workpiece hang up on the slot edges, usually it just gives you a bit of a bump, but it's enough to drive me nuts. And yes, the table is flat, I'm assuming the stock is off just enough to catch. I suppose I should remove the track and bevel the slot edge a hair, but I haven't...
