Router table design compilation

Hello Creek!

I took the time to download can compile MOST every single thread that has pics of (mostly free standing) router table designs and thought it best to create this thread for reference for those needing ideas/pics.

It is very diverse and I tried not to put too many related threads in it.

Also there are a few.. but not many table saw extensions in here. This is mostly free standing ones as the compilation of all types might have been overwhelming. Hopefully folks can book mark this one for design ideas by searching for the word 'compilation' which does not come up very often:

Thanks for the summary. The thumbnail reference on each thread is great.

What a co-inky-dink. I am getting ready to re-do my table top. Current one is about 10 years old. After this period of time, I have some "lessons learned" to be incorporated in the new top.


Add a miter track for a sled. My current sled just references off the front edge of the table. The miter track will also take feather boards.
Build a new fence that is a little taller and modify the dust collection box.
Add a track in the new fence to attach hold downs - instead of using clamps to attach the hold downs. (Clamps get in the way.)
Formica® makes a good surface. It has lasted for 10 years with only minor wear.
Maybe build a second fence that will tilt. (For miter splines.)

I don't see many (or any) comments about it on this board, but I have been very happy with the Veritas router table system. I guess metal tops are the exception, but i really like it and the fence system, including the right angle sled.

Roger, the Veritas system is indeed very nice, especially for someone wanting a more compact setup. Many of the shop-built solutions are larger, however. Typically, these have 24"x32" or 24"x36" (and occasionally larger) surfaces for easier handling of larger or longer workpieces. I do like metal tops, however, which is why I moved to the BenchDog cast iron top this past year from two generations of MDF and laminate tables that served me well.
