Does anyone know if there are any differences between the 1791999 model and the 1792000 model? I may have a chance to buy the 1791999 model at a discounted price, but am concerned that I might miss one or two features. Thanks.

As there seems to be about $900 difference in price, there must be something quite different. Why don't you call a dealer and ask the question ?

I called Powermatic today and asked about the difference in model numbers. The service rep checked their computers and manuals and could not find the model 1791999. That seems rather odd, since the plate on the saw (and the packing box) clearly says model 1791999. Does anyone own a model 1791999 PM2000 saw? Thanks.

Page 6 of the manual refers to the 1791999 number but oddly enough has the pdf file labelled as 1792000K

According to the manual Doug posted in this thread, the saw is a model 2000 and then are different stock codes.

171999 is a 3HP saw

171998 is a 5 HP saw

Regards, Rod.

I dunno. Amazon at least thinks the 2000 number is an actual PM stock number.

Ken:

Thanks very much! This gets me closer to an answer. Unfortunately, when I read the descriptions for the 1791999 saw and the 1792002K saw, they are the same (except for a huge difference in price). Tomorrow, I will call Timberline and ask for an explanation. Thanks again.

The only differences I could see on the Timberline listings were in the bold font heading at the top. I think the 2000K had TA and the fence in the title. So maybe the arbor on the 1999 is welded in place and doesn't have a fence??

I think Doug is sneaking up on the answer here. I looked at the manual too.

I believe what the 1791999 number refers to is the base 3 HP unit. (Note no "K" on the end of the part number, like you have on a complete saw assembly with fence and rails.) So it would probably have no fence and rails as that incomplete part number. So the price difference is must be the fence and rails and any other accessories, like a mitre gauge.

The bottom line is; There is no free lunch. I researched saws "ad neauseum" before I bought my cabinet saw. Everytime I found an "exceptional deal", I would find out is wasn't such a deal when I looked hard enough. Something was always omitted or downgraded to get the price lower. I had looked at the PM2000 and found that there wasn't $200 difference between the highest and the lowest prices, even on the internet.

You get what you pay for Steve. So if you want the PM2000, you're gonna have to pony up the dough. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I spoke to the Sales Rep at Timberline today. The 1791999 model does not include the fence. (I didn't ask about the miter gauge.) Still doesn't seem quite right since the price differential between 1791999 and model 1792002K (with a 30" fence) is $800. You should be able to buy a fence for about $350.

Disagree. You can find deals if you're patient. Here's the price now:

Have you been living clean or what? That's a deal! I didn't have that luck when I looked.
