This is my first post here on sawmill creek. Hope you all like these peppermills. They are the first ones I have done and ran into some finishing problems with the padauk, but I got it figured out.

I found this design on www.peppermillguy.com (http://www.peppermillguy.com) and really liked it. These two are laminated padauk, maple, and dyed black veneer. They stand 9" tall and about 3" wide.

The first one if for my mother-in-law and the second is for my mom for christmas.

Thank you all for the kind comments!

The finish is 10 coats of polyurethane then Beall buffed after the finish finally cured. And a final finish of Renaissance Wax. I had problems with the poly curing on the padauk since it is an oily wood. But as I got more coats on, it cured better. I should have used a shellac sealer or lacquer for the finish, but it worked out in the end.

The mechanism kits are the CrushGrind ceramic ones with a shaft. I got them at Rockler, but many places carry them.

Welcome to the Creek. Those are really great looking mills. All the Woods compliment each other very well. I know they will be appreciated by your family. The Finish shows your work great.
