I was asked to make a goblet for one of the doctors LOML works with wedding. While being flattered I am also nervous. Not sure this is worthy of being a commissioned piece :o. Woods used are maple, purple heart, and teak. About 8" tall. Comments and critiques welcome.

Not sure this is worthy of being a commissioned piece

If you're not sure of that, you must have doubts about sunrise happening tomorrow.

That's great!

Mike,
That's seriously pretty. Very nice job keeping the blank centered. Where did you hide the purpleheart, and what finish? BTW it is a worthy piece.

Mike I don't know where your doubts are coming from because that is a great looking piece worthy of a commission in my books. They are going to love it.

Mike,

I scrutinized that thing as much as I could from the photos you've posted. I think you did an excellent job. Centering that and getting it balanced. A real technical challenge. Very nicely done sir!

What did you use for a finish?

I don't think that is worthy at all. Don't listen to these guys... what you should do is PM me so I can give you my address of where to send it. I'll study it for about 30 years or so and get back with you about improvements that are needed. :D

Wow, that's a beauty! The Doc is going to love that. I'm kind of scratching my head to figure out exactly how you glued that up to start with though.

That is very good looking. I'm sure they will be happy, because I would be. Question though - what finish did you use?

And another nasty complaint. Not a deal breaker, but might be better if the rings were interlocked. You hadda ask. Still a very nice piece.

Well Mike if there is anything remotely missing from this, than it is what Richard mentions, interlock the rings, other than that it looks perfect to me, beauty :D:D

With the two captured rings the meaning of the goblet is perfect! Anyone would love to recieve such a special and meaningful piece!

No worries, take the money to the bank!

Excellent piece of work. Even though I purchased my first lathe a few months ago, my background in architectural design appreciates the form, design, and concept you displayed in this piece of art. Great job!

Curt this is the glueup I used. The finish several coats of poly.
Thank you all for the ego boost, maybe it is worth a buck or two:confused:.
