Gast Pump Question

I just received a Gast 523 pump I "won" on eBay for my soon to be built vacuum chuck following Steve Schlumpf's design. It is a 110 V model with internal filters and looks like the one sold by Packard and CSUSA. Are external filters are required since it has two internal filters with a felt media or are the external filters needed only for certain older models that do not have the built in filters? It came with a 3/8" barb installed on the input and output ports.

Mike - congrats on your new Gast pump! The 523 pump that I have (220 VAC) doesn't have internal filters so they had to be added to the system. If you have built in filters - great! Will save you a little money and make the system a little more streamlined! Looking forward to seeing your version of a vac system! Have fun with it!
