I'm looking from some ideas for my wife's 10 anniversary wedding gifts... It's coming soon, in January.
I was thinking of buying some jewelry and building a box for it...
Could you show me the boxes you are building for Christmas?
I was thinking on either a bandsaw box (hearth shaped) or a nice small rectangular box with a dark wood for the "legs" and a contrasting wood for the top...

You can make really nice boxes quickly and easily from crown molding. Basically all you have to do is miter the ends, route out the leg openings and cut a groove for the bottom board to make the box.

The lid is a flat piece of stock attached with two brass pin hinges like these:

You need to drill four holes and bevel two edges to 45 degrees.

I've made ajewelry box just like this for my granddaughter for Christmas. It will have some drop in trays with dividers.

The only tools needed are a TS and a router. For the router you need three bits, a straight bit with a pilot bushing, a 45 degree chamfering bit (could use the TS) and a small edge forming bit to trim out the top. Any size crown molding can be used.

Fillteh box with a nice set of pearl earrings or a gift card for a dinner out and you are all set!

P.S. if you stop by the restaraunt and make a reservation you can leave a vase of flowers and most places will put it on the table for you when you arrive. She will be shocked when you give them to her to take home.
