I recently purchased an old delta (rockwell) radial arm saw (serial # ca3790). Could i use this exclusively for dados and if so, what dado set would you recommend? Also, how can i get a manual for it and more information about it?

Thank you,
Abram Godshall

Manuals and information for many old machines can be found at http://www.owwm.com/. You'll need the model number of your saw.

This could be easily used for dados. Good dado stacks are Infinity (http://www.infinitytools.com/products.asp?dept=1194) and Forrest (http://forrestblades.com/dado.htm) - and there are others...

Your Delta/Rockwell should have a Model number (in addition to the serial # you gave) on the name plate usually on the rear side of the base. (xx-xxx) It would be helpful if you mention if it is a 10", 12" or 14"-larger saw. Go to www.OWWM.com (http://www.OWWM.com) and find the Rockwell section. A good chance your model RAS will be listed and a parts manual available for download.

RAS's are great for a dado setup, IF you can adjust the table perfectly parallel with the track arm. It goes without saying, dados need be the same depth from end to end.

IMO, Freud makes some good dado sets which cut perfect dados in ply, melamie or solid wood with little or no tear out! Less than $200 for the SD508 (much less on eBay) A much better set (more teeth) than the less expensive SD208 as sold at BORGs everywhere.
