I don't know about the mentos thing. But I do know that you don't want to leave a 12 pack of coke in the car during the middle of summer. I had the windows cracked at appx 1 inch at all four and the heat exploded 4 cans in the car, and welted the remainder. Took me half hour to clean the glass enough to drive home. Still have reminder stains in the car of that incident. Not one square inch wasn't covered in coke remnants. It must have went off like a hand grenade.:(:(

There was an episode of Mythbusters that covered that. From a 2L bottle I think they got it to spray straight up almost two stories.
