Looking for a good clasp - What would you use?

I have been toiling away at this wood shelf for my friends PT cruiser for about a week now. One of the features on the shelf stumps me. There is an arm on the bottom of the shelf that folds down and props it up so it can be used for tailgating (see the pic below). I will be making an arm out of three pieces of scrap cutoffs from the shelf and I need to find an attractive solution for the clasp and the hinge. It will be sitting proud of the self. Any ideas??
