View Full Version : Coming Soon, Our One Millionth Post

Keith Outten
12-10-2008, 1:24 PM
As of today we have 979,990 posts here at The Creek since February 11th, 2003. We are averaging between 800 to 1000 posts per day so it looks like we will see our one millionth post before the end of 2008 or shortly thereafter.

Clearly a celebration will be in order, I wonder who will make the one millionth post here? If it is you you will have some kind of prize coming to you and this includes our Moderators, everyone is eligible, you just have to click the submit button at the right time :)
Our System Administrator Aaron Koehl will query our database to identify the winner once we have gone over the magic number.

Is there a way to limit the posts posted per minute - to avoid stuffing the ballot box? I can forsee a crashed server... ?

On the blue bar at the top of every page, there is a link for "Member's List".

Click on that and then click on the Posts column to sort it.

From that, one can determine the odds of who might hit the 1M post. :)

Yeah, the odds are clearly in Jim B.'s favor.... :D

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction. The one millionth poster will not be me. Thanks for the very successful site. I keep coming back because of all you prolific posters.

Apparently Jim has a lot of free time on his hands. Maybe he should take up woodworking. :p

John Schreiber

My money's on Jim too. He has made about 1 in 30 of ALL the posts on the Creek so far.

Wow :eek::)

Apparently Jim has a lot of free time on his hands. Maybe he should take up woodworking. :p

I think Jim is one of those people who can do a hundred things at once and can still get them all done before schedule. I think he types with one hand on one computer, the other hand typing on a laptop, writing with left foot, and with the right foot, typing his posts here on SMC on a third computer. Have you seen the Michael Phelps commercial. They got the idea from Jim B. ;):D. My money is on Jim also. He deserves it. Bill

Keith,

Unless my math is terribly off, you will see our 40,000th member come aboard during this same time period :D:)

I am with the majority on Jim :p

Richard Wolf
12-10-2008, 7:44 PM
So maybe it will be the 40,000 th member with his 1st post!!

Oh, and I noticed that our "Active Members" number was just over 10,000 - what ever that means.

+1 for Jim. Where is he though? Strangly silent.... Timing it perhaps?

Keith Outten
12-11-2008, 5:27 AM
No matter who it is we are cooking up something special to commemorate the event. It would be almost impossible for anyone to generate a plan to be the one millionth poster, the odds of timing clicking the submit button on the exact post are huge given the number of people online here is often 500 to 600 people.

Maybe it will happen on New Years Eve, it would add one more major event for 2009 which will undoubtedly be our most eventful year to date.

Doc,

I'm not sure where you are looking but we're just under 8,000 posts to go to reach a million.

Jason Roehl
12-24-2008, 4:03 PM
Chris, roll your mouse pointer over the post numbers in the upper right-hand corner of each post. Perhaps the front page counter doesn't count the posts in the mod forum? Or maybe it doesn't count all the deleted posts...

Jason

Keith Outten
12-24-2008, 4:23 PM
The post counter on the main page is the number of active posts here at The Creek. We have had over a million posts if you count the deleted posts which we don't. For the record other than deleted posts and those that have been removed to our Moderators Forum every post is accessible in our archives. We don't delete or remove old messages or threads as we feel they are a valuable part of The Creek.

It's over by 237 posts as I type this one...hopefully Keith can ascertain who the lucky millionth poster is!

We are obviously over the one million mark. The winner can only be announced by our System Adminstrator Aaron Koehl as he must query our database and deduct the deleted posts from the total then backtrack to the post that put us over the top. Aaron goes to church on Sunday morning so it will probably be tomorrow afternoon before he announces the winner.

When do I pick up my new Corvette? That was the prize wasn't it? It was me that posted the millionth post wasn't it?

Aaron Koehl
01-04-2009, 3:33 PM
As of today we have 979,990 posts here at The Creek since February 11th, 2003. We are averaging between 800 to 1000 posts per day so it looks like we will see our one millionth post before the end of 2008 or shortly thereafter.

Clearly a celebration will be in order, I wonder who will make the one millionth post here? If it is you you will have some kind of prize coming to you and this includes our Moderators, everyone is eligible, you just have to click the submit button at the right time :)
Our System Administrator Aaron Koehl will query our database to identify the winner once we have gone over the magic number.
