I was curious if anyone has had any success in replacing the sole of a 113 circ plane. I recently acquired one that is in pretty good shape except for some heavy pitting on the sole. It looks as though the sliding dovetailed part that makes up the mouth and the hard points front and back are all riveted in place (?)

Thanks in advance!
Matt

Granted, the pits may be making a weak spot, but if you clean it up and de-rust the pits, it should work just as well. Kind of like random corrugations (and, no, I'm NOT bringing that up to re-open the discussion about whether a corrugated sole has less friction!).

Sand it smooth and use it -- if it's a user. If it's a collectible, sell it and get one that isn't pitted. I love mine, use it on tons of things.

Thanks for the replys! I'll most likely leave it as it is for now, however I'm guessing that there could be a crack develop down the road from use, and I was curious about repairs. Its got 3 or 4 real deep pits close to the mouth area that could be a problem.
