7538 with speed control

I currently have a PC 7538 router, I need to use a raised panel bit but don't want to run it at full speed. I see the speed controls for routers say don't use with those routers with soft start. Am I hooped or is there another speed control/method I can use ??

You cannot use a speed control with a router that already has soft start circuitry.
