can someone tell me the best kind of wood to engrave pictures. i can imagine that all the different types of wood have different qualities and minor point. I searching for the best quality to have a nice plaque with picture.

You will no doubt get several different opinions but I personally prefer prefinished red alter plaques or sheet stock. The engraving will produce a rich brown tone which produces a rich contrast. Of course they can also be color filled if you desire.
If you want a more rustic look try natural basswood planks with the other bark intact. These are normally unfinished so you will probably need to clear coat them after engraving. I think that these look great for wildlife images, etc.

The best detail comes from using a white wood with little or no grain, and for that I find basswood to be the best option.
