I am helping my daughter build a Christmas present but I am stuck. We have a 3/4 plywood piece and covered it with paper birch bark. I now want to trim the it with about a 2 inch birch limb for the frame. Since I want to cover the edge of the ply I thought I would take a quarter of it out on the table saw but that didn't work out very well as it isn't perfectly straight and it is difficult to hold.

Does anyone know another way to do this or is there a jig I could build?

Thanks for any help.
Joe

A bandsaw seems like the best bet to me...

Maybe something like this: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=38252 only smaller.

I think you may be right. I neglected to mention I don't have a bandsaw and I was trying to find another way to tackle the problem.

A plane and chisel will remove the material you want.

Remember that your rebate doesn't have to be perfect, it will be hidden at the rear of the project.

Not sure if you have a belt-sander, but maybe it could be used to 'cut' the notch you need. Another choice is to sand the back flat and then see if you can route it out now that you have a flat reference.
