I've never worked with cherry. All the cherry I have for the chest I've started is not greatly figured with grain but has a lot of irridescent striping. Will BLO bring this out? I figure on finishing with padded shellac and don't know if I need the BLO. I know... try some samples. I just want some opinions from you first.

Also, will this striping disappear as the wood darkens?

I always hit cherry with an application of BLO to enrich the grain and natural color. Then, it's a coat of garnet de-waxed shellac. If I need a top coat, I generally apply Target Coatings Oxford PSL/USL. Sometimes, just just skip the shellac and lacquer and use only the oil and wax.
