I had a pocket full of hickory nuts last week and one of my students decided to see what he could turn from them. This is what he came up with.

They are surely looking good, but that is also surely about the hardest way to get the nutmeat out :D  ;)

Thanks everyone,
He held the nut with pin jaws on a scroll chuck. Had to be careful not to hit the jaws. Hickory nuts are very good to eat, but it is also very very hard to get the meat out any way you go about it.
Thanks again,
Jack

Jack, I have a bunch of black walnuts that I gathered in the early summer. They still have the outer covering on them, but it has shrunk up and turned dark. I have one almost finished into a small lidded box. I was hoping to get it done and posted, but your students beat me to the NUTS! I love that they had the desire to turn some not so typical things!

Great job and thanks for posting them!

Jeff

Jack, great to see art is not just paper and paint. You may have an up and comming wood artist there.
