This one is 7'' wide and 10'' high. Shellawax finish. I tried something a little different on this piece. We built a black bar island a while back that got more and more distressed as it went down, so I tried it on this. Don't know if I like it or not yet. Nice piece of ambrosia though. Thanks for looking.

Mike - I'm sure by now you know that I am a big fan of your turnings and this one really works! I like the pedestal/finial idea to elevate the HF. Nice proportions, colors and finish! Very nice photos as well! Thanks for sharing! Seriously, I like it!

I think it's too ugly for a person as nice as you to have to put up with. Send it to me and I'll save you the excrutiation. ( :D )
Absolutely beautiful! All the way around. Nothing else to say about it!

Mike,

I really like this one a ton but am confused about the black bar.

Pete, sorry for the confusion. I'm a custom kitchen cabinet builder by trade. We had built a bar island and painted it black. We then sanded the corners off making it look worn and old, thats ''destressing''. So thats what I done to the black on this piece. Hope that answers the question.

Mike,
Can not tell from the pictures that the black is "distressed", so I don't know if your idea worked. Does not seem logical to me to "distress" parts of such a very nice piece. Just an opinion.

Mike, really like this one. The form of the hf and the base and finial are all just great. Would like to know what you used to get such a deep black on the base and finial. Assume they are also maple, and painted black?

It all works together for me.The pedestal and finial really flow..I like the heft(fiquiratively)of the base pedestal as it transitions to the delicate finial. Very pleaseing to my eye.

Beautiful, as usual, Mike. The design and proportions of the finial and pedestal are perfect to my eye and the photo is up to your usual high standards.

I can't really see any distressing but am of the opinion that it is not the best approach on such an artistic piece. Of course, that's just my countrified opinion. I know nothing about art and don't pretend to...I just know what I like and I like this piece a lot.

Mike,
Your work is always amazing. I like everything about it. The distressed finish on the finial goes very well with the Ambrosia Maple, and it brings out the dark hues of the hollow form. A top notch piece.
