Ok They don't look as good as the pictures of everyones bowls but I had to start someware thought I would make some tools and turn the handles. Glued up some scrap wood from the shop . Made the tools out of Oil harden tool steel and carbide inserts and but them together.Did cut some walnut and maple in to blanks from trees we cut down.

Those are going to do just fine. What finish did you put on the handles?

Ted

Dahl,

Nice looking tools. Could you give us a close up of the cutting ends and tell us what they are. Especially the top tool in the picture with the round carbide??? cutter. And the bottom tool. What is you source for the cutters? Part number etc. Thanks.

Maylon this is a #4 Hunter carbide insert bought at Rockler. I made the holder and handle.

Maylon this cutter is 5/8 dia high speed tool steel that I wire burned a hole in than ground a 3 deg angle on to a razer edge and welded to a 1/2 tool steel rod .Rockler has one close to this that I coppied.

Dahl,

Thanks for the closeups and explanations. They sure look like they will work fine. Let us know how satisfied you are with them after making a few shavings.
