I would like to make pair of snowshoes for Christmas to give to one of my sons. I have had very little luck finding plans, instructions or materials on the web. Any help?

Richard, I am from Texas, what is this snow stuff.......:D

I can not help you but I did see them made on TV awhile back and it looks like a big job. and the weaving is the hardest part to me it looks like.

I know you need green wood for the frames so you can bend it without it cracking. The old ones I have have an ash frame. You could probably also use hickory. It appears to have been sliced from the larger piece with a Froe (can you say that word on the power tool side?) so that the grain all runs full length of the pieces. Then the pieces are steam bent.

I've seen kits for rebuilding old snow shoe lacings available on the internet. Here's one: Lacing & instructions (http://snowshoe.com/index.cfm?pageid=60&productid=LP) My Dad rebuilt the pair I have a number of years ago. I used them this past weekend to walk with the dog in the 18-24" of snow in th back field.

Some great links, thanks gentleman. I ordered the book and video and will post completed pics when done. I have some experience making Windsor
chairs, riving, and steam bending, so I should be able to handle these. They should be fun.
Thanks again.
