Last week I create a fixture to slot handsaw backs (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=96917), and this week I was able to sneak in some shop time after attending to my son's marching band championships (they didn't get to the finals...:().

I started out with a piece of brass that was 1 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick. I first started by flattening the top and experimenting with some chamfers before I slotted it.

I then cut the brass down the middle leaving a 5/8" wide back with the top chamfered, and chamfered the bottom edges.

Then I stamped it with my touchmark that I use for blacksmithing and handsaws, very handy little hot stamp.

I then slotted the back with a .025" thick screw slotting saw.
