I will be picking up my new Grizz 0490x jointer on Monday. I currently have a 220v box mounted on my ceiling w/o the receptacle. I planned on going to the Depot tonight, and buying the L6-20 recep that I need and wiring it into the ceiling. However, I'm thinking that the power cord for the jointer may not reach all the way to the ceiling. So, since my jointer is not going to be near a wall where I could add a new 220, is there something I can (safely) do to hang the recep a couple feet from the ceiling so that the cord will reach?? Or should I just add to the power cord once I get it?

I dought H.D. would have a strain relief grip, but you probably don't really need it anyway.
But it would be more professional to use one. Like Dis (http://cgi.ebay.com/Flexcor-Kellems-Strain-Relief-Cord-Grip-CG410_W0QQitemZ290156574817QQcmdZViewItem)

Try this, plus a lag hook in the ceiling.... http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/6C097

The strain relief is a great/safe idea! Especially with 220V! If it Wuz Me, I would make the drop cord end about 78" off the floor with a female 6L-20. Low enough to reach/High enough not to smack your head. If your jointer cord will not reach, make yourself a nifty 220V extension cord (20 ft?) with the Twist lock 6L-20s, using 12-2 w/ground cord. Never know when you might need one in the future!

Probably cheaper just to replace the cord with one that will reach.

I agree with Jack. The price on the connectors can get quite costly.

I have cord drops from boxes in the ceiling to my jointer and planer with a female plug end. It makes it easy to unplug the machine when changing blades or doing other maintenance.

Do Grizzly machines come with a cord? No 220V WW machine I've ever bought came with. That's always something they leave up to the owner to wire it best for their shop. So unless Grizz does it different you won't be "replacing" a cord anyway but buying what you need to plug it into your shop.

My G0490 came with a cord. I only had to add a twist lock plug to match my existing 220 outlet.

Usually cord w/o plug.

Yep, cord no plug. So I think I'll just add more cord to get the length I need. Thanks for the ideas though!

Don't add more cord--you shouldn't slice mid-run. Remove and replace. ;)

12-3 cord at my local hardware store is only abut $1/ft and its nice cord.

I made my own 12-3 cord but use it for other tools as well. The cost of connectors would not make sense if it were semi-permanent. The eventual G0490X install will be a replacement cord long enough to reach a "dongle" from the ceiling or I'll run the outlet clear to the nearest wall.

Twist locks are great but I have never had this fall (or get pulled) out.

When I built my shop, I installed receptacles in the ceiling. All the wiring was #12 and I have 20 amp breakers. All my hanging lights plug in and I can also plug in power tools using extension cords. It comes in handy for tools that aren't close to the wall. It also makes rearrangment of the shop easier.

You can probably buy a 12/3 extension cord cheaper than $1 per foot and the outer jacket will be mor abrasion resistant.
